Taking a Range Rover to the track may not be as far-fetched as you think given the performance aspirations of the new 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport V-8 Supercharged. In this episode of World’s Fastest Car Show, host Justin Bell takes this 510-hp brute around the circuit to see if it lives up its “sport” moniker.
It should come as no surprise, then, that Bell starts off by putting the Range Rover Sport into sport mode, which stiffens up the SUV’s air suspension and quickens the responses from its eight-speed automatic transmission. The 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine propels the Range Rover Sport from 0 to 60 mph in a quick 4.9 seconds thanks to its heady 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. Around the curves, the Range Rover acquits itself well thanks to its torque vectoring system and surprisingly agile demeanor. Plus, when Bell accidentally goes off-track, the Range Rover conquers the dirt and gravel with the practiced ease of a purpose-built off-roader.
In the end, Bell concludes that the Range Rover Sport may be one of the most well-rounded vehicles on the market today. Check out the video below to see this surprisingly performance-oriented SUV race around the track.
