Scottsdale luxury car dealership raided by IRS

Federal agents with the Internal Revenue Service raided a luxury car dealership in Scottsdale on Wednesday, according to an agency spokesman.

Special Agent Brian Watson of the IRS Criminal Investigation team identified the dealership as the Luxor Auto Group, 3220 N. Scottsdale Road.

The reason for the raid was not made public by Wednesday night, but it is part of an investigation by both the IRS and the Scottsdale Police Department, Watson said.

Records from the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions may offer some insight. Dealership president Hamid Salair was served with a cease-and-desist order in October 2011.

Salair was ordered to suspend operations after department investigators found that Luxor was not licensed to sell motor vehicles or act as a sales finance company in the state of Arizona.

The order required that Salair pay $10,000 in civil penalties and obtain the proper permits to continue operations.

Records show Salair signed the order, indicating he agreed with the investigation's findings and associated penalties. It wasn't clear Wednesday if he followed through.
