Rumored Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Prototype Caught Testing in Traffic

Test car seen rolling with a Z06

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Prototype
Rush-hour traffic isn’t exactly the best place to test Chevrolet Corvette prototypes, but the video below shows exactly that.

The entourage includes four test vehicles, but one stands out—the purported Corvette ZR1, which was recently caught testing a few months ago. Back then, the prototype featured pedestals for a spoiler, but the spoiler wasn’t mounted. This time around the spoiler makes an appearance and it’s massive, looking ready to provide much needed downforce for high-speed track runs.

The mismatched body panels still remain, as does the heavily-covered front fascia. Speculation suggests that the camouflage is hiding air scoops at the outer edges of the lower bumper, positioned to feed intercoolers for a purported “LT5” twin-turbo V-8. Another notable detail is the prototype’s blue brake caliper, the same color used for the C6 Corvette ZR1.

That said, the prototype could simply be testing a new aero package for the Corvette Z06. Or it could also be a revised Corvette Z06. Perhaps it’s both. After all, the other test cars include one undisguised Z06 coupe, and two disguised prototypes (a convertible and a coupe) that appear to be sporting new aero kits. Either way we’re eager to find out what Chevy has in store for the Vette, and hopefully we’ll see the final product at next month’s Los Angeles auto show or early next year in Detroit.
