Best car deals from £6,000 to £12,000
Skoda Citigo SE 1.0 manual - £69 per month
List price: £8,780, Aim to pay: £8,609, Deposit: £2,543, APR: 0 per cent, No. of payments: 35 monthly, Final payment: £3,297, Total amount: £8,780.
At our New Car Awards, the Skoda Citigo has won Best City Car for the past two years, and was crowned Car of the Year in 2012. As with key rivals, great packaging ensures its tiny body doesn’t hamper practicality, plus it’s cheap to buy and run.
However, what really sets it apart is the way it drives: the three-cylinder engine is eager, and the Citigo is not only nippy around town, but surprisingly capable and comfortable on A-roads and motorways.
Kia Rio 1 1.25 5dr - £139 per month
List price: £10,300, Aim to pay: £9,735, Deposit: £2,281, APR: 4.9 per cent, No. of payments: 36 monthly, Final payment: £3,902, Total amount: £11,187.
Sensible cars needn’t be dull, and the Kia Rio is proof. It’s spacious and practical, has a seven-year warranty and a five-star safety rating, and is one of the most efficient cars around, with even the thirstiest models able to do 50mpg-plus.
It’s also very stylish, with sculpted flanks and a swooping roofline, plus the cabin has the kind of quality feel usually reserved for pricier cars.
Best car deals from £12,000 to £15,000
Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec - £149 per month
List price: £13,120, Aim to pay: £10,570, Deposit: £3,322, APR: 4.2 per cent, No. of payments: 24 monthly, Final payment: £6,380, Total amount: £13,298.
The Fiesta was deservedly crowned Best Supermini at the 2013 Auto Express New Car Awards. It’s the best driver’s car in its class, with pin-sharp handling and great refinement, and it looks great. Build and quality are excellent, and there’s plenty of kit, while Ford will put £500 towards the deposit if you buy on finance.
Fiat Panda Trekking 0.9 TwinAir - £179 per month
List price: £12,645, Aim to pay: £11,406, Deposit: £179, APR: 0.9 per cent, No. of payments: 47 monthly, Final payment: £4,358, Total amount: £12,950.
If there’s a car that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face, it’s the Fiat Panda Trekking. Its pumped-up looks stand out a mile, and the cabin is just as distinctive, with bold colours, chunky switchgear and boxy spaciousness giving an endearing, cartoonish quality. But the Trekking is also fun to drive, with a high-set seating position and excellent visibility.
The TwinAir engine is a decent performer, too, plus it’s efficient, with 105g/km CO2 emissions. Fiat’s Blue & Me Bluetooth is standard, and there are endless personalisation options for those who want their car to stand out even more.
Best car deals from £15,000 to £17,000
Skoda Octavia S 1.2 TSI 5dr - £145 per month
List price: £16,310, Aim to pay: £15,182, Deposit: £4,755, APR: 0 per cent, No. of payments: 35 monthly, Final payment: £6,480, Total amount: £16,310.
The latest Skoda Octavia is based on the brilliant new VW Golf, and while it doesn’t have the looks or driver appeal to match its sister car, it stands out by offering much more space.
Not only do passengers have more room in which to stretch out, the 590-litre boot leaves the likes of the Golf and Ford Focus trailing by a mile. Better still, Skoda is offering the car at just £145 per month on zero per cent finance – so buyers get a lot for the money.
Mazda 3 SE 2.0 120PS - £199 per month
List price: £16,995, Aim to pay: £15,870, Deposit: £4,059, APR: 5.9 per cent, No. of payments: 42 monthly, Final payment: £5,994, Total amount: £18,911.
While the previous-generation Mazda 3 was lauded for its looks, handling and build quality, it never quite hit the heights of rivals like the VW Golf and Ford Focus. But this new version is a real contender at the top of the class.
It’s better looking than before, with a sharp front end and sleek roofline. Plus, it’s even better to drive than its predecessor, while there are now more efficient engines and a more upmarket cabin. And at just £199 per month, buyers are getting an accomplished car for their money – especially with Mazda offering £500 towards the deposit.
Best car deals from £17,000 to £22,000
Nissan Juke Tenka 1.6 2WD - £209

Nissan has a knack of pioneering new niches in the car market, having followed up the Qashqai with the Juke. The styling of the small crossover isn’t to all tastes, but it stands out from the many competitors that have emerged since. And the Juke scores with its high driving position and generous standard specification.

If you thought an upmarket Audi was out of reach, think again. With a deposit of just £3,000, you can get the keys to a sophisticated A3 Sportback. The classy A3 feels a cut above its compact family hatch rivals, yet it’s every bit as practical. Sport trim adds eye-catching 17-inch alloys, chunky sports seats and dual-zone climate control.
Best car deals from £22,000 to £25,000
Ford S-Max Zetec 2.0 TDCi - £279 per month
List price: £24,635, Aim to pay: £20,415, Deposit: £6,808, APR: 4.2 per cent, No. of payments: 23 monthly, Final payment: £10,769, Total amount: £24,293.
While the family friendly S-MAX is now an MPV old-stager, it can still put a smile on your face on a twisty road. The seven seats include a sliding middle row, although the rear seats are really only for children.
The 138bhp version of Ford’s 2.0 TDCi has the power to cope with a full load, and there’s a £1,500 deposit contribution from Ford.
Toyota GT-86 - £465 per month
List price: £24,995, Aim to pay: £22,517, Deposit: £0, APR: 4.9 per cent, No. of payments: 35 monthly, Final payment: £10,762, Total amount: £27,548.
T-drive coupé was a breath of fresh air when it arrived in 2012. A combination of a modest power output and skinny tyres gives it nimble handling that you can access at sensible speeds, and the GT 86 – a former Auto Express Performance Car of the Year – is a great alternative if you’re tired of powerful hot hatches.
Right now, Toyota will cover your £500 deposit – so for £465.33 a month over three years, you can experience its sweet handling for yourself.
Best car deals from £25,000 to £30,000
VW Golf GTI 2.0 TSI 3-door - £369 per month
List price: £26,125, Aim to pay: £23,93, Deposit: £7,712, APR: 6 .3 per cent, No. of payments: 35 monthly, Final payment: £12,895, Total amount: £29,030.
While the VW Golf GTI has been overtaken by its rivals for outright power and driving thrills, the original hot hatch is a great all-rounder. The turbo 2.0 TSI petrol engine delivers plenty of mid-range power, and the chassis balances great handling with impressive refinement.
You can get the GTI with three or five doors, and with a manual or DSG auto box. We’d also recommend the Performance Pack, which adds more power and bigger brakes for £995. There are no special offers, but you can buy through VW’s finance scheme at 6.3 per cent APR.
Nissan Qashqai Tekna 1.6 dCi 2WD – 316 per month
List price: £26,145, Aim to pay: £21,500, Deposit: £6,270, APR: 6.9 per cent, No. of payments: 36 monthly, Final payment: £11,754, Total amount: £29,428.
After some years at the top of the crossover class, the Qashqai was beginning to show its age. But this new car is set to be at the top of the class again, as improvements across the board mean greater practicality, economy and quality.
There’s a number of deals to choose from, but up your monthly payments and you can enjoy the top-spec car with the 1.6-litre diesel, capable of 64mpg.
Best car deals from £30,000 to £35,000

There are two offers on the Luxury, which has leather, sat-nav and xenons. Pay either a £6,999 deposit and £349 for 36 months, or a £2,701 deposit and £499 over the same period. Both include a £3,424 dealer deposit contribution and 4.9 per cent APR interest rate.

BMW’s latest X3 is a genuine alternative to a full-sized luxury SUV, and it offers nearly as much space as the X5. As you expect from the brand, it handles well but is still comfortable, while fuel-saving tweaks mean the 4WD doesn’t affect economy and emissions too badly. Go for the 20d SE and you’ll pay £369 over 47 months.
Best car deals from £35,000 to £50,000
Porsche Cayman S - £514 per month
List price: £49,458, Aim to pay: £47,248, Deposit: £8,500, APR: 7.5 per cent, No. of payments 35 monthly, Final payment: £28,204, Total amount: £54,805.
Get behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayman S, and you’re guaranteed to have fun. We voted it our favourite fast car last year, praising its mix of pin-sharp handling, punchy performance and surprisingly low running costs.
Your dream car doesn’t come cheap – even though it’s around £25,000 less than the 911, the Cayman S still costs nearly £50,000. And don’t expect any discounts when you take out finance, either. But once you’ve placed your deposit, you can spend half a day at the Porsche Experience Centre
at Silverstone, Northants, where one-on-one tuition will
allow you to make the most of your new Cayman.
Range Rover Evoque 2.2 SD4 Prestige 5-door - £399 per month

Land Rover has enjoyed huge success with
the Range Rover Evoque, with people attracted to its stylish looks and luxury feel. But despite the car’s popularity, there’s still a competitive finance deal.
Go for a Prestige model with four-wheel drive and the 2.2-litre SD4 diesel, and you’ll get £1,500 towards the deposit from your dealer, then monthly payments of £399.
Best car deals - £50,000 +
Mercedes CLS 250 CDI AMG Sport - £439 per month

The CLS four-door coupé broke the mould for exec saloon styling when it arrived a decade ago, and the second-generation model, launched in 2010, still turns heads.
The flagship CLS 63 AMG takes the performance accolades, but the CLS 250 CDI AMG Sport diesel has similar looks, isn’t far behind for performance and is more economical.
Jaguar F-Type V6 S - £799 per month
List price: £67,520, Aim to pay: £61,863, Deposit: £14,999, APR: 5.9 per cent, No. of payments: 36 monthly, Final payment: £31,224, Total amount: £74,987.
The sleek Jaguar F-Type has been the must-have car since making its debut last year. The range is about to be boosted by a Coupé but the Convertible has already caused a stir with its looks and driver appeal.
Jaguar’s Privilege scheme lets you experience it for £799 a month with a £14,999 deposit and an attractive 5.9 per cent APR.
